Soil Association challenges 'health experts' who claim 'organic isn't worth the price'

In a BBC Horizon programme to be broadcast next week, Professor Lesley Regan challenges the commonly held belief that organic farming is better for health, the environment and animal welfare....

The programme insists there is little evidence that an organic diet provides greater nutritional benefits or that non-organic crops grown using pesticides and chemical fertilisers are more harmful than their organic competitors.
Policy director at the Soil Association, Peter Melchett, said: "It is clear that buying organic is far more than a lifestyle choice, it is a rational, sensible and intelligent choice because there are nutrition benefits."
The Food Standards Agency (FSA), which issues advice to consumers is conducting a review of the latest nutritional research.
